The Bowmen of Lytchett is a target archery club based in Lytchett Minster in Dorset, which can boast a thriving membership and excellent facilities. Our members include archers from a wide range of age groups and abilities.

We are a friendly club that has grown rapidly in recent years and are pleased to welcome visitors as well as those who are looking for a new club. For those who are new to archery, we offer a six week beginner’s course (see details below), which must be completed before potential new members can join the club. Courses are available subject to demand and can be arranged through our Chairman. See ‘Contact Us’ for contact details.

We shoot on Tuesday & Wednesday evenings (in the Sports Hall at Lytchett Manor School at 8.00pm on Wednesdays only during the winter months) from 6.00pm & Saturday mornings from 9.30am at Lytchett Park. Club target days & competitions are normally held on Sundays. See ‘How to Find Us’ for directions to Lytchett Park.

Fun Shoot 2007

On a particularly warm day for the time of year, 42 archers representing 5 clubs from the area enjoyed an excellent afternoon’s shooting at Lytchett Park on 15 April. A reverse National with ‘sighters’ at the end is always a good fun way to ‘kick off’ the outdoor season and the good weather was something of a bonus this year. Top honours went to Dave Whiddett and Carol Hodder from Osprey in the Gents & Ladies Compound, with scores of 640 and 636, respectively. Julie Abraham of Southampton was the winner of the Ladies Recurve and Mark Wootton of Osprey, the Gents Recurve. Bournemouth’s Keith Calder (who else) was the winner of the Gents Longbow while Abigale Loader and Ryan Gibson both of Southampton, top scored in the Junior Recurve classes. Grateful thanks go to Vicky Burden of Lytchett for standing in as Lady Paramount at short notice.

‘Have a Go’ Sessions
We are often asked by clubs and organisations to put on ‘have a go’ sessions for their members and are more than happy to arrange such events. We provide all the necessary equipment and expertise, all they need to do is turn up and shoot! The cost is subject to negotiation and if you would like further information, please contact us.

Beginners Courses:
We run regular beginner’s courses throughout the year at Lytchett Park and they comprise six lessons, the first of which is free. Beginners who wish to continue after the first lesson are asked to pay a course fee of £35. We rebate £10 of this fee against their first year’s membership if they decide to join the club once the course has ended. If you would like further information, please contact us.
